One of the lessons in church was on service today. It was fitting for the #lighttheworld campaign going on throughout December. Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount: “Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. “Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. “But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: “That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.” (Matthew 6:1–4.)
I just wanted to share a story about one of Josh’s many services to me this past week. I have a laziness problem with filling up my car with gas so when I get on empty, I ask to take Josh’s car to work. He always says yes and I tell him I will fill it up when I get home from work but he always fills up my car. He is SO sweet and kind and never gets annoyed with me when I do that. He is a great example to me of unassuming service.
In that church lesson today they quoted President Howard W. Hunter, “Most of us will be quiet, relatively unknown folks who … do our work without fanfare. To those of you who may find that … unspectacular, I say, you are ‘no less serviceable’ than the most spectacular of your associates.” #lighttheworld
