Just Another Day [Week] in Paradise

One of my favorite country songs is called, “Just Another Day in Paradise” by Phil Vassar. Josh doesn’t care much for country music, but we’re working on it. 🙂

“The kids screaming, phone ringing
Dog barking at the mailman bringing
That stack of bills, overdue
Good morning baby, how are you?
Got a half hour, quick shower
Take a drink of milk but the milk’s gone sour
My funny face makes you laugh
Twist the top on and I put it back
There goes the washing machine
Baby, don’t kick it.
I promise I’ll fix it
Long about a million other things

Well, it’s ok. It’s so nice
It’s just another day in paradise
Well, there’s no place that
I’d rather be
Well, it’s two hearts
And one dream
I wouldn’t trade it for anything
And I ask the lord every night
For just another day in paradise

Friday, you’re late
Guess we’ll never make our dinner date
At the restaurant you start to cry
Baby, we’ll just improvise
Well, plan be looks like
Dominoes’ pizza in the candle light
Then we’ll tippy toe to our room
Make a little love that’s overdue
But somebody had a bad dream
Mama and daddy
Can me and my teddy
Come in to sleep in between?

Yeah it’s ok. It’s so nice.
It’s just another day in paradise.
Well, there’s no place that
I’d rather be
Well, it’s two hearts
And one dream
I wouldn’t trade it for anything
And I ask the lord every night
For just another day in paradise”

Even though Josh and I don’t have any kids yet, I feel like this is a good theme song for the regular day-to-day life. We have been pretty busy but life’s been pretty normal…and it’s been really good.

Last weekend, Josh and I cleaned up a bit and got haircuts by our super talented friend Delenna. I originally scheduled just me but we both talked Josh into getting his haircut then, because he was getting a little bushy. He looks SO good. 🙂 Josh and I have a lot of fun with Delenna and her husband Brandon and her two cute munchkins. Josh and Brandon have really similar interests and Delenna and I are buddies from high school so we all get along great. 🙂

Delenna and me. PC: Brandon or Josh- I cant remember 🙂

We had another emergency trip to Instacare because Josh really is allergic to the heat, kind of. He has always claimed he was allergic to the heat and I would roll my eyes. But a bunch of red bumps appeared all over his back and they spread to his chest and arms. He has had shingles before, so we were worried he was getting another case of shingles. The doctor told him it was either a heat rash or folicalitis (never even heard of that one before, both caused by heat). Fortunately, it’s not serious and will go away.

Poor Joshy! I made the picture small so you could quickly skip over it if you wanted. 🙂

Josh has also been working on a new Star Wars costume. It will be pretty epic. After he finishes this one, he will start working on mine so we can be matching characters for Halloween and for the opening day of Star Wars 8 (I can’t believe I’m planning on doing that…:)) #bignerds

Guess who? #xwingpilot
So cute!

We celebrated my sister-in-law, Quincy’s, birthday at Olive Garden. It was so yummy and so good to be with family and a super cute niece. Birthday celebrations are always fun.

Olive Garden birthday fun- I know I’m pretty crazy about taking pictures…Happy Birthday Quincy!
Olive Garden selfie- The waitress forgot to take a group picture so I thought this would be easier.

That same day I had my farewell lunch at Squire. We went to P.F. Changs. It was really good, but the amazing part was at the end of the meal when I received my fortune cookie. It said, “A new business partner will soon emerge.” Next Tuesday I start my new job and I’m very excited! The Chinese know what they are talking about. 🙂

It’s crazy how accurate these things are 😉 (Josh, Jackson)

I have also been putting my graphic design skills to work for our Cub Scout group. We’re working on an Art merit badge. Last week we asked them to draw a design on a paper to make an iron-on for a t-shirt. I interpreted their drawings to make the following…they seemed to like them.

One scout just wanted his shirt to say, “I am super lazy” so I did it and then added the last sentence. hehe.

This was my favorite design. This scout did not come last week so I asked his mom what were his hobbies. She told me soccer and video games. I did a little retro soccer design. 🙂 The ink was a little funky printing in the middle, but original design was pretty cool. I think I was a little too creative, he is way to young to understand retro video games. Haha.

We brought fabric markers for them to add to their shirts, if they wanted.

Opening Day

Softball has started again! Yay! Josh and I have been super excited (and a little nervous) about getting the team together. Sometimes people are flaky. We have a good mix of friends and family on the team. Our team Smushballs, also our sponsor, got off to a good start, which also means we won our first game! My batting needed some work but Josh did great as usual. We both had some good plays. It was a ball! 😉 The team playing after us asked one of the girls to stay and play. I volunteered to play. Josh was great and cheered me on. I love to play softball, but I love to play more with people I know and like. Go Smushballs!

Josh and I kept the party going on Saturday. We invited our siblings over for dinner and to play Star Wars. #nerdfest Josh made lemon basil chicken sandwiches. They were so good! (See recipe posted in “Major League Food.”) Afterwards, Josh, Joseph, and Stefi played Star Wars while Quincy and I played with baby Kendra and made jewelry. Stefi beat the boys. #girlpower Our cousin Naomi also stopped by to visit 🙂 AND we had some FaceTime with my other sister, Nikki, and her son, Davy, in Colorado! It was quite the party. Gotta love weekends!

A Nerd Party

Relaxing weekend…check; productive weekend…check; fun weekend….check, check.

We FINALLY went our first long bike ride. Due to our busy schedules and crazy spring weather we haven’t been able to use our bikes very much. On Friday evening we rode the Provo River Trail. The trail is a little bit noisier than the ideal because it is so close to a main road but it was flat and a good place to start riding. I haven’t ridden a bike in years and I have never ridden a road bike before, so I’m getting used to that. It’s amazing how the old adage of “It’s just like a riding a bike” is true. I was a little shaky at first but it comes back so quickly. Biking will be a fun summer adventure!

To preface this next part, Josh is so good to me and such a good sport. So I’m generally not a big fan of reality TV. The only reality TV shows I have watched in the past were on Food Network and the Price is Right and even then I am not a very devoted fan. I stayed home from work a few weeks ago because I was sick and I started watching Relative Race on BYUtv. I became hooked and I even got Josh to watch it with me that night. Now, we watch the new episode every week. I thought from watching this show that if I were to apply to be on a reality show it would be Relative Race. I love the idea of trying to find your relatives across the US. Plus, Josh and I love road trips. Last week, I randomly went to their website and I saw they were casting for the next season. I got super excited and I asked Josh to apply with me. He patiently agreed :). We had to make an introduction video and write a little essay about why we want to be on the show. Hopefully we’ll get a call back. 🙂

On Saturday we played our weekly racquetball game. My dad couldn’t make it so we played 3-way Cutthroat. Josh and my brother, Joseph each won a game. Afterwards we cleaned and cooked some yummy pasta because my old mission companion Hermana Vera came to have lunch with us. It was really nice to catch up and visit. She was the companion I interviewed with last week about learning English. She’s a great woman!

After she left, we cleaned and cooked again because my brother and his wife, Quincy, and my mom came over for dinner and movie. Yes, we’re super social! 🙂 We set up our projector and rearranged all our furniture in our living room so we could watch the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens. Josh’s dad called our get-together a “Nerd Party.” 🙂 For dinner we had a calzone bar, it was fun picking toppings and seeing everyone’s concoctions. Josh makes really good pizza dough. The movie was really good, again. We already saw it in the theater and I recommend it. On Sunday, Josh got a little stomach bug but started feeling better later in the day so we were able to have dinner with his family. His cousin Sarah came to visit as well.

Another good weekend…check. May the force be with you!

May the Force Be with You this Christmas!

Josh is ALMOST done with finals, he has one project left. We were still able to play a lot this weekend. On Friday evening we went to my department’s holiday party. We wore ugly sweaters and played the white elephant game. We didn’t win any prizes but I think we had the most awesome sweaters. A little bias, I know. Josh made them earlier that week in honor of Star Wars coming out. In case you can’t read the pictures, Josh’s sweater said, “Hairy Christmas” with Chewbacca in a Santa hat. My sweater had an Ewok with a candy cane and it said, “Ewokin’ in a Winter Wonderland.” Josh is SO clever :). Josh won some Grinch pants during the white elephant game and I took a picture of him posing in them but he won’t let me post it. (Sad day, it is SO great).  We liked our sweaters so much we wore them to the Star Wars movie showing the next night.

On Saturday we woke up early and played tennis. It had been a long time for both of us. Josh was really sore the next day. Fortunately, everywhere in the valley has a lot of snow except Provo, we found some places to play. Later that night, we played Star Wars X Wing with my brother Joseph and his wife Quincy to prepare for us going to see the new movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Josh got Joseph hooked on this game. Josh has a track record of doing that. 🙂 After playing for a little bit, we went to the movie. We got some snacks before the movie and I didn’t realize Josh was a popcorn addict. He finished a Jumbo sized popcorn before the previews were over. I helped a little but it was SO funny watching him inhale the popcorn. Haha. It’s fun learning new things about your spouse. The movie was good. I’m not a huge Star Wars fan but I really enjoyed it. I think they redeemed themselves after movies 1, 2, and 3. Josh and I definitely recommend watching it.

At the theater, getting ready for the show to begin 🙂
