Just Another Day [Week] in Paradise

One of my favorite country songs is called, “Just Another Day in Paradise” by Phil Vassar. Josh doesn’t care much for country music, but we’re working on it. 🙂

“The kids screaming, phone ringing
Dog barking at the mailman bringing
That stack of bills, overdue
Good morning baby, how are you?
Got a half hour, quick shower
Take a drink of milk but the milk’s gone sour
My funny face makes you laugh
Twist the top on and I put it back
There goes the washing machine
Baby, don’t kick it.
I promise I’ll fix it
Long about a million other things

Well, it’s ok. It’s so nice
It’s just another day in paradise
Well, there’s no place that
I’d rather be
Well, it’s two hearts
And one dream
I wouldn’t trade it for anything
And I ask the lord every night
For just another day in paradise

Friday, you’re late
Guess we’ll never make our dinner date
At the restaurant you start to cry
Baby, we’ll just improvise
Well, plan be looks like
Dominoes’ pizza in the candle light
Then we’ll tippy toe to our room
Make a little love that’s overdue
But somebody had a bad dream
Mama and daddy
Can me and my teddy
Come in to sleep in between?

Yeah it’s ok. It’s so nice.
It’s just another day in paradise.
Well, there’s no place that
I’d rather be
Well, it’s two hearts
And one dream
I wouldn’t trade it for anything
And I ask the lord every night
For just another day in paradise”

Even though Josh and I don’t have any kids yet, I feel like this is a good theme song for the regular day-to-day life. We have been pretty busy but life’s been pretty normal…and it’s been really good.

Last weekend, Josh and I cleaned up a bit and got haircuts by our super talented friend Delenna. I originally scheduled just me but we both talked Josh into getting his haircut then, because he was getting a little bushy. He looks SO good. 🙂 Josh and I have a lot of fun with Delenna and her husband Brandon and her two cute munchkins. Josh and Brandon have really similar interests and Delenna and I are buddies from high school so we all get along great. 🙂

Delenna and me. PC: Brandon or Josh- I cant remember 🙂

We had another emergency trip to Instacare because Josh really is allergic to the heat, kind of. He has always claimed he was allergic to the heat and I would roll my eyes. But a bunch of red bumps appeared all over his back and they spread to his chest and arms. He has had shingles before, so we were worried he was getting another case of shingles. The doctor told him it was either a heat rash or folicalitis (never even heard of that one before, both caused by heat). Fortunately, it’s not serious and will go away.

Poor Joshy! I made the picture small so you could quickly skip over it if you wanted. 🙂

Josh has also been working on a new Star Wars costume. It will be pretty epic. After he finishes this one, he will start working on mine so we can be matching characters for Halloween and for the opening day of Star Wars 8 (I can’t believe I’m planning on doing that…:)) #bignerds

Guess who? #xwingpilot
So cute!

We celebrated my sister-in-law, Quincy’s, birthday at Olive Garden. It was so yummy and so good to be with family and a super cute niece. Birthday celebrations are always fun.

Olive Garden birthday fun- I know I’m pretty crazy about taking pictures…Happy Birthday Quincy!
Olive Garden selfie- The waitress forgot to take a group picture so I thought this would be easier.

That same day I had my farewell lunch at Squire. We went to P.F. Changs. It was really good, but the amazing part was at the end of the meal when I received my fortune cookie. It said, “A new business partner will soon emerge.” Next Tuesday I start my new job and I’m very excited! The Chinese know what they are talking about. 🙂

It’s crazy how accurate these things are 😉 (Josh, Jackson)

I have also been putting my graphic design skills to work for our Cub Scout group. We’re working on an Art merit badge. Last week we asked them to draw a design on a paper to make an iron-on for a t-shirt. I interpreted their drawings to make the following…they seemed to like them.

One scout just wanted his shirt to say, “I am super lazy” so I did it and then added the last sentence. hehe.

This was my favorite design. This scout did not come last week so I asked his mom what were his hobbies. She told me soccer and video games. I did a little retro soccer design. 🙂 The ink was a little funky printing in the middle, but original design was pretty cool. I think I was a little too creative, he is way to young to understand retro video games. Haha.

We brought fabric markers for them to add to their shirts, if they wanted.

Parking Lot Party

A few days ago my work had a recruiting open house for accounting students all over Utah. I was put in charge of planning it. For the past few months my team and I have been searching for a band, caterers, equipment, planning games, making invites, and collecting RSVPs. It has been a TON of work and fortunately only a few hiccups. All the party planning paid off and the party was a success. We had a good number of students attend and plenty of good food. Always a good sign of a party. The theme for the party was a tailgating party, tis the season and everything. We asked Waffle Love and Burgers Supreme to cater. So yummy! We had multiple tailgating games in the parking lot to win prizes. We also had a really good musician, Jim Derrikson, come and play during the party. Josh was super sweet as usual and helped set up and clean up. He helps me with all the events I plan. We had a long day and I was at work for over 12 hours, but I’m so glad it turned out well. I took a few of pictures before the party really got started for my work’s social media and for this blog. 🙂

Cute Joshy! Official Volunteer
Where’s Josh? 🙂

A funny situation with this party was this flyer. I made this flyer to give to the various schools and invite students. My brother is getting his accounting degree and there was a student in one of his classes who thought this was an actual ticket to the BYU vs. Utah game and thought the company I work for was the best company ever because of it. Haha. There were also students who thought it was a party to celebrate the BYU vs. Utah game the week before the party. And there were students who thought it was an actual ticket to come to the open house. Apparently, I was a little too creative. I could totally see where they were coming from but they did not read the flyer. What do you do? Some people at work mentioned maybe it could be an early way to screen people to see if we wanted to hire them. Attention to detail and everything. Anyways, this little flyer provided a lot of laughs. I’m glad the event is over! 🙂

Living in The Antique Roadshow

After a crazy, busy Friday; Josh and I had a fun-filled, busy Saturday. On Friday I was in charge of planning my company BBQ and Josh was my sweet helper. He was also the photographer. It turned out really well except we forgot the cheese. Oh well, there was not a lot of whining so it was okay. Ha. Ha. We rushed from the BBQ to our double-header softball games. We have a really good group of people on our team. The games were fun, but slightly disappointing because we lost both games and a 1/4 of our team got injured. 😦 Age is not a friend sometimes.

On Saturday we went to Logan, Ut. Logan is about 2.5 hours from our home so it was good day road trip. Josh’s parents invited us to go to Logan and help them bring back a kayak. Josh’s Dad, Dennis, injured his hamstring in honor of our softball game the night before, so his wife, Laura, drove. Josh and Dennis enjoyed giving her a hard time about her driving. Men… Laura- I think you did great! 🙂

We met up with a couple of Josh’s uncles and aunts that live in the Logan area and had a good visit and a pretty good Mediterranean lunch. We also visited a few antique stores. Interesting fact about Logan, there are around 11 different antique stores in the Logan area. Kind of crazy for such a small town. I found out about this fun fact when I visited Logan a few years ago with my old LDS mission companion and we had a blast finding treasures. I am so glad Josh likes to thrift and look at old stuff. I found a cool, vintage, funky pair of earrings for $1, see picture below. 🙂 We also stopped by a few used bookstores (of course) and found some missing books for our collections. We also found a few interesting book packs for sale advertised outside the bookstore that made us laugh. I had to take a picture of and share, see below.

I’m really grateful to have such wonderful in-laws. It was a lot of fun hanging out with them all day. #goodday

Anchors Aweigh

We were able to take a mid-week break this week and go boating with my department at work. This is the second year we’ve planned this party. Josh volunteered to use his grilling master skills and grill for the party. It wasn’t a large party and we had about 30 people come. The party turned out to be a success and it seemed like everyone had a lot of fun. We were entertained by one of my co-workers who did some water ski tricks. Josh and I rode on the tube tied to the boat. I was pretty scared to try it because I am a big chicken. But Josh talked me into it and I really enjoyed it. He kept trying to ask me to signal to the boat to go faster but I was pretty insistent on a steady and leisurely pace. I can be pretty stubborn. We left the boat a little early to start cooking and preparing everything. Josh wanted to try to grill some wings this time along with burgers, hot dogs, and chicken breasts. People really liked Josh’s chicken and his wing sauce. #soproud. I think the only thing we would change next year is to buy more chicken and put on more sunscreen. We both got pretty burned from the sun and are still feeling the effects of our bad decision. But at least we got our Vitamin D. 🙂
